The controlled grinding of metal surfaces is possible in several roughness values or Ra values. Grinding can be done to different values or degrees of roughness. We can also achieve a controlled roughness with a grinding belt. At VG, we have machines for sanding and grinding to any desired roughness, according to customer specifications and the prescribed standards.
What is a surface roughness – Ra value?
Roughness, precision or fine grinding are in many cases recommended to obtain a certain roughness in the material. Indeed, certain applications of finished metal products require a specific surface roughness (or smoothness). For example, because certain installations must be easy to clean and keep clean or because a smooth flow of products must be maintained. The lower the roughness value, the smaller the chance of corrosion formation and the smaller the chance of bacteria or contaminants adhering. These are important factors and advantages for machines used in the food and pharma industries.
