VG Machines introduces new deburring system with the lowest total cost of ownership in its class
VG Machines is launching the Leonardo, a deburring machine based on a fundamentally new technical concept. The machine was developed with one clear objective: achieving the lowest total cost of ownership for deburring and edge rounding of metal sheets.
With a working width of 1.500 mm and a transversally moving grinding belt that lasts up to five times longer than in conventional systems, the company introduces a different approach from what is currently available on the market.
A different approach to deburring
Where existing deburring machines use a vertically moving grinding belt, VG Machines opts for a transversal movement. The grinding belt moves across the workpiece and is guided by a pressure pad that adapts to the edge of the part.
The concept builds on the proven CNC technology of the Edge series, where brush wear is continuously measured so that the pressure on the workpiece remains constant. This approach guarantees consistent quality from the first to the last part, regardless of the type of brushes used.
Three cost drivers addressed
Thanks to the transversal movement, the belt always wears evenly, regardless of where the parts are positioned. This results in a belt life up to five times longer than with conventional systems.
With a 150 mm transversal grinding belt, the Leonardo processes the full 1.500 mm working width. Compared to a conventional 1.500 mm vertical wide belt, this requires significantly less grinding belt surface area and reduces belt costs to approximately one tenth.
The Leonardo also makes a difference in terms of energy consumption. While conventional 1.500 mm machines often require up to 15 kW for the grinding belt and 11 kW for vacuum fixation, the Leonardo operates with just 7.5 kW and 3 kW respectively.
Compact footprint, ready for automation
The Leonardo has a constant passline height and a compact footprint, making it easy to integrate into automated production lines. Its CNC control stores all settings per product as a recipe.
